RESEARCH AREAS OF INTEREST

Synthetic and systems biology:

-Design, engineering and analysis of synthetic gene circuits.

-Artificial cell-to-cell communication with emphasis on horizontal gene transfer.

-Emergence of global behavior from simple rules.

-Robustness and new unique features of distributed multicellular designs.

-Features and flexibility for the end user of circuits designed in a modular way.

RESEARCH SUMMARY

My research aims to discover robust distributed cellular circuits to process huge amount of information in parallel in a delocalized manner.

Since the information is encoded in DNA strands all the current projects are based on horizontal gene transfer (HGT). This cell-to-cell communication in which our partners are world class experts allowed a large amount of signaling without crosstalk maintaining circuit robustness. With the correct design this biological feature enables the parallel computation of a huge amount of data just by defining simple intra-cell behaviors.
